People’s Petition Against Austerity – Sign now

The Coalition of Resistance has launched this petition along with the list of initial signatories in a letter to the Guardian on 18 October. It will be handed in to Downing Street in June 2013 when we will be hosting a People’s Assembly Against Austerity. Full details to come soon. Please ask everyone to sign.

“The failed policies of the politicians and the bankers caused the financial crisis. Spending cuts are driving us into poverty. An economic alternative is essential to protect ordinary people, and to save the NHS and welfare state.

The government should:

1) Stop cuts and halt privatisation;

2) Tax the millionaires and big business;

3) Drop the debt, and put the banks under democratic control;

4) Invest in jobs, homes, public services and the environment.”

London anti-cuts demo & conference Oct 20th–21st: latest update

The following message from the Coalition of Resistance was received earlier today:

Volunteers needed for the day — 9am @ Temple & Embankment

Hundreds of thousands will demonstrate in Central London this Saturday against the cuts and in defence of the welfare state.

It’s set to be one of the biggest demonstrations in recent times.

The size of the demo is only restricted by how many people know about it, let’s make sure we go all out in the last 3 days to get as many people as possible there.

Publicity for the demonstration can be picked up from Housmans bookshop, 5 Caledonian Road, Kings Cross, London N1 or from Firebox, 106-108 Cromer Street, London WC1H 8BZ

Join the Coalition of Resistance team on October 20th – More volunteers needed

Coalition of Resistance is producing thousands of placards and a four page broadsheet to give out for free on the demonstration. We need hundreds of people to help on the day – please ask friends, workmates, family if they can help too.

We will have two main meet up points at 9am – Embankment Tube and Temple Tube. If your coming from outside London and can help when your transport arrives please also let us know.

If you can help please phone / text Sam on 07872481769 or email coalitionofresistance@mail.com

We also need help everyday this week in our office and making placards. Get in touch if you can help.

We have organised a social event for our volunteers and for the international delegates on the eve of the demonstration from 6pm onwards with acclaimed singer-songwriter Sean Taylor playing from his new album “Love Against Death”.

Coalition of Resistance Broadsheet
The Coalition of Resistance broadsheet leads with Tony Benn and has statements from Len McCluskey (Unite), Frances O’Grady (TUC) and Natalie Bennett (new leader of the Green Party). It puts a clear argument for No Cuts and what people can do next.

October 20th London anti-cuts demonstration: can you help?

The following message from the Coalition of Resistance was received earlier today:

Coalition of Resistance is working for the biggest possible turn out on the TUC’s ‘a future that works’ demonstration. Hundreds of coaches have been booked from across the country and even some trains. Click here to see transport details.

Our simple ‘No Cuts’ message is one which is more important than ever — more than 80% of planned cuts are yet to come. The demonstration will be our chance to show that despite all the propaganda from the government and the media, cuts are not necessary.

How can you help?

Building the demonstration:
Click here for some suggestions about how you can spread the word as widely as possible about the demo.

Click here to order Coalition of Resistance leaflets, posters and stickers publicising the demo.

Preparations for the demo:
We are producing thousands of ‘No Cuts’ placards and a four page ‘demo special’ broadsheet with articles from leading figures in the movement about the alternatives to austerity.

We are going to need a big team of people to help distribute these throughout the demo and to help make up the placards in the week before.

Call for volunteers
We need hundreds of volunteers to help out on the day and in the run up to the demo.

If you can join the Coalition of Resistance team, please email coalitionofresistance@mail.com or phone Sam on 07872 481769.

We are organising an activist meeting to go through the plans for the day and to discuss what we can do in the last few days to maximise turn-out for the demo. Please do bring people along:
